A part of the early project team
A complex net of illicit practices operated within a building, behind the facade of a leisure centre, amidst Caracas’ downtown.
Urban makers began a dispute to override this fact, recovering the existing facilities of a Casino, to its switchover into a cultural platform. The project aims to build an organism of development of alternative economies from the sphere of cultural experimentation, through innovative activities and productive relationships within an infrastructure of high scale. The intervention foresees to modify the enclosed nature of the building, to expose the structure to the city. Providing a public space-building to the street, able to irradiate a process of urban regeneration from this trigger point.

The ecosystem includes different cultural facilities connected to the city fabric. Accurate and sound operations of urban revitalization, that stakes to resignify the context comprised by historical developments of Caracas’ center, coexisting along with dwelling complex, markets, public institutions, and historical buildings. The transformation of the building foresees a deep restructuring of the infrastructure, including the disassembly of dysfunctional spaces and ornamental elements. Incorporates new systems able to establish a harmonic relationship with the tropic condition, where nature, energies, and intense social relationships exist, within an atmosphere of public space that extends beyond the boundaries of the building.

The project aims to empower a network of multiple social organizations, city labs, and local urban artists and activists, immersed in a space of cooperation ruled by self-management; where different tools are crossed to promote an environment of a cultural community. A think thank and plural action that gathers a large part of the experimental creative capital which concentrates the city. The project pursues a model of intervention that includes a permanent cultural agenda. New ways of work and productive relationships will be associated with a local population of more than one thousand inhabitants that live around the collectivity center.

The throughout intervention propose a model of progressive growth, within the format of direct actions which allows developing workshops with focussed operations, local tools, low-cost technologies, minimum energies consumption and wasting, and seeking the feasibility and practical results using self means.
The strategy is based on supplying the spaces with new individual equipment up to shape a whole system. A building which is assembled consecutively through independent pieces. The available funding capital for these infrastructures, comes from all of the economies of the cultural units, through contributions of reinvestment to the project, that may take the form of cooperation funds and resources of local production of entrepreneurship and social associations.
